Rooms were clean and elegant. The reception and housekeeping staff was responsive and thorough. The restaurant downstairs was excellent but a separate business from the hotel itself so no breakfast was included. However, the breakfast we paid for was superb as was dinner. I’m sorry to hear the rug people gave you a hard time, we do try to let people know about the haggling in our FAQs, but not all sellers are the same, of course. But we certainly love to hear wonderful things about our drivers, they are such an important part of the trip. Thank you for choosing us for your trip!

In dinard the hotel had zero parking we usually parked about 6 or 7 blocks away. The guides were awesome.
People need to be aware very little cell service. Makes it difficult to use google maps to travel. communication was nice most new a little English. A list of nice restaurants in areas where we are staying with the times they are open would be great. a lot are closed midday and during the week. Really loved your choices of places to see!

We had sent you Apps to help you finding restaurants every where.

My husband and I, their moms and the two girls traveled from Venice to the Amalfi coast with Florence, Cinque Terre, Pompeii, and Sorrento in between. I have planned many trips before so I know about the mountain of details there are. But with so many stops I felt I needed help with the planning. Tasos was great from the start - patiently fielding all our requests and changes. Also advising us on what was possible and what we should not try to do. Our accommodations were perfect - I know it’s difficult to find family rooms in Europe but we had a suite for the kids and a standard room for my husband and I with hot breakfasts included. The breakfast at the Magi House in Sorrento was exceptional! Every driver, every transfer was at the time and location described in our itinerary. We went by train to each city with reserved seats. The standout part of the trip, though, was the guides and the private tours. I loved the scavenger hunt in the Doges Palace in Venice - geared for kids but excellent for adults! Gondola paddling was a hoot. Pizza and gelato class in Florence was very informative and fun! Our Pompeii guide was excellent even though it was raining and thundering. Cleared out the crowds! The driver for the Amalfi coast, Pasquale, was full of information and stories. We were wishing we had a little more time in Ravello. The highlight of the trip was the private Capri Island & Grottos tour with Tony. He went above and beyond showing us around Capri, arranging a wonderful lunch and of course sailing us all around the island with music, snacks and conversation. I can’t thank Tasos and the Travel 12 group for their attention to detail, the clearness and completeness of our itinerary and the ease with which we could communicate with them before, during and now after the trip as we are struggling with lost luggage and out of pocket expenses for a delayed flight. I will definitely use Kimkim again for our next big trip.

Migle helped us plan a perfect month-long trip to Scandinavia. She was easily reachable while we were traveling, which made us feel well taken care of. She came up with great activities and hotels and had all of the transportation worked out perfectly for a smooth trip.

There were things that she recommended that I would have never thought of or planned that we all enjoyed-- like the zip line/biking in Flam, Norway. That was a really fun day. Our overnight kayaking trip out of Bergen was great as well. Our guide Michael was great and we stayed at a beautiful historic farmhouse on a remote island which really made the trip easy (and my wife much happier that she wasn't going to be on the ground in a tent!)

Our 4-day trek in Iceland was perfect as well and was the highlight of our trip. Iceland has many beautiful places to see but you really get a feel for the geology and scenery when you get to the interior (away from the tourists) and hike between the remote huts.

The recommendations for things to see and do gave us a great starting point for our explorations of all the cities and natural sites we visited (Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, the fjords, and Iceland). The restaurant recommendations also helped a lot.

Migle arranged for all the transfers by train, which was fun since we don't use them much at home. The recommendations for the Copenhagen Card (free museums and transit) and the app for Stockholm's system made travel easy and enabled us to see more than we would have had we needed to pay each time. Super convenient and helpful.

It was a really memorable trip for our family and we're really appreciative of Migle and KimKim for making it easy.

Loved the location for this hotel-- on the water and near the palace. We had a family room and crammed 4 of us in it. It was very tight for 4. The service was great and the breakfast was perfect. My complaints are the size of that room was small and the windows in the historic building are small. The dining area where breakfast is served doesn't look out at the water (not sure if it was because of construction or if that's permanent). Otherwise a great place to stay.

I was angry when we arrived and got to our room (but calmed down...) I thought it looked a lot better online but our room, according to my son, looked like his dorm room. It was pretty sterile, faced an interior courtyard, and was cut into two pieces so our bedroom had no window. It was decent sized, though, and in a good location. The breakfast was good but you had to get there early or you would have trouble finding a table.

We had a room in the restaurant building and it was tight but worked well for our family of 4. We had views of the fjords and were next to their restaurant, bar, and all the local attractions. The staff was great and they had a great place to store our luggage on our last day. It worked out well. I will say that, if there's a cruise ship in town (which there was our first day) it's parked right in front so the view of the fjord becomes a city view of a 20 story building... But we only had a ship there 1 day during our stay.

I love this hotel (but I'm a sucker for historic hotels!) It's a huge wooden building on the water near the ferry terminal. There are tons of public lounge spaces and a great outdoor deck for having lunch, tea, etc. There's a fancy restaurant and a cafe which also serves on the deck. The food was great-- lunch and breakfasts. Our room was large and had a large deck looking out over the fjord. The bathrooms are a little funky because of the old building but worked fine. Our kids had a corner room with views in every direction and two decks. It was a little tight with two beds but the funky shape and ceilings made it really cool for them. I was sad we were only staying one night here. I would have loved to stay longer, with the hotel as one of the main attractions (although Balestrand is beautiful and there's lots of hiking, biking, water-related activities to do from here).

Hafnarfjörður

I warned my family before we arrived-- this is going to be "something"... And it was! The viking village is a crazy restaurant/shop and hotel all decked out in faux viking motif. The lodging is really like a motel. We had two rooms in the main building and they were fine. Our kid's room was pretty tight but ours was a little bigger. The baths felt like those in an RV but were fine. I think that the little cabins would have been really fun to stay in. We peeked in while they were being cleaned and they had a large bed downstairs and smaller beds in the loft area. Our kids would have enjoyed that. We got in late and left early so didn't get to eat at the restaurant but got to go inside while they were doing some work on it. It's huge and really decked out with historic pictures and artifacts. It reminded me of a viking Trader Vic's or tiki bar. The buffet at the hotel was okay and the dining room was pretty crazy as well-- indoor pond and waterfall and faux stone ceilings and walls. It's definitely a thing and we were happy we stayed there for the experience.

We had two adjoining rooms in one of the cottages on the hill. Each room had its own bath (small but nice) and the room was decently sized and had a view over the town. They seemed like they'd been redone pretty recently. The cottages are part of a larger hotel which has a big, modern building (where breakfast is and the restaurant is). We ate dinner there and breakfast and had two great meals. The new building is beautiful and has some lounge spaces and amenities for guests that we didn't use while there.

The hotel is owned by an Icelandic woman with a lot of charm and character-- she's a character! The rooms were large and looked out over open space behind. You can park right in front which was nice since we had so much stuff. The baths were large and the rooms were pretty big too. The restaurant was great and the breakfast buffet was pretty good too. The dining room had great views of the mountains and glaciers off in the distance. There was a large patio that we couldn't use because it was raining but that would have been a nice place for a drink or casual lunch/dinner.

This is a large hotel in a very small town. It's where buses seem to pickup and drop-off for trips away from Reykjavik. I was surprised by the size when we got there. It looks a little like a self-storage center from the outside because it's all correlated metal but our room was really nice and very large. We had our own hot tub (although it wasn't really private and we had to go out the front door and around to get to it). Very nice, though!! The hot tub was super clean and warm. The room was really clean and bright too. The hotel also has two large public hot tubs and saunas and other facilities. The dining room is bright with lots of windows and the food was very good. The staff was super helpful. They also do laundry overnight for you (I think it was about $20/load). That really helped us and we didn't have to waste a few hours doing it ourselves (which almost cost as much when we did it in Bergen). My only complaint is the design just seemed a little sterile inside and out.

This might have been our favorite hotel of the trip. It's in a great location-- right next to parliament in the downtown core. The rooms have large patios and ours had a great view. We ended up getting upgraded to the penthouse room our last night and it was huge with two giant decks. The rooms are well decorated and very clean. The staff was really helpful and friendly. The breakfast was great. There is a restaurant in the hotel that we didn't try but it looked good. The location was amazing-- we joked that everything we needed was 1 block away (bank, 24-hour store, grocery, restaurants, food hall, city hall, parliament, the pond, pedestrian zone, etc.) It was a great spot from which to see the town.

We loved this experience. You take the historic train from Flam to the station just before the top, zip line down to where you pick up your bike, and ride back into town. The zip line was really fun. It's paired so you can race your wife/brother/friend. That's fun. The bike ride was great and mostly downhill. We stopped at the river and had a lunch picnic in the island. I would bring food along because we didn't find much along the way (we missed the cheese place that was mentioned in the info). The bike return was near downtown so really convenient. We had a great experience! We kayaked around the fjords (not the big, tall ones, but the coastal fjords right on the North Sea). We stopped to fish (and caught a few small guys). Then we pulled into a small harbor and walked to our historic farmhouse where we stayed the night. The farmhouse was great-- we all had nice beds, a warm wonderful meal. There was a great fireplace that helped warm us up after a little rain got us right as we were pulling up. We had a great breakfast and then headed out again. Our second day, we had a problem with high winds so we hiked the island, which was fantastic, and then got a boat ride back. Michael, our guide, was fantastic and made us some great Norwegian fish soup for dinner (sadly not with fish we caught...) The kayaks were great and the house was amazing. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants a little adventure. The kayaking wasn't tough or long so it was a great family event.

I thought I would hate this must-see activity but ended up really liking it. I thought it would be crammed and crowded and Disney-like. We got there in the early evening and it wasn't crowded. It was a nice experience which I wasn't expecting. The facilities are beautifully designed. The water is warm (and you can find hotter or cooler areas). We had some drinks prepaid. The wine wasn't great but the beer was decent. The mixed drinks were fun and there were good non-alcoholic versions for the kids. There are activities while in the water-- the facial scrubs (4 parts), a waterfall to be under, different areas to hang out, places to find hot spots, and the bar. The locker and shower facilities were good and clean. It took me a while to figure out my locker but got it working.

This was the highlight of our trip-- for the whole family. We got picked up in Reykjavik and taken 3-4 hours to the starting point. We hiked and then stayed in our first hut (after a visit to sit in the nearby hot spring!) The scenery on the trip was amazing. You really get a different sense of Iceland than you do by chasing the attractions around the ring. Instead of looking up at the mountains and glaciers, you're in them. At the end of our 2nd day, I think the scenery was the most beautiful I'd ever seen. The valley we looked down into (and ended up staying in that night) had pointy volcanoes, rivers, glaciers, lakes all in a vivid green setting. It was really beautiful. That hut, right on the lake, had incredible views as well. The huts were perfect. They're rustic and you share large rooms with your fellow guests. I was worried about that for my family but it was perfect. Fortunately no loud snorers... You work together to help cook and clean the dishes. The food was great and they accommodated everyone's diet issues. You make a bag lunch for the hike before heading out. Vans move your luggage from hut to hut so you only need a small daypack. That makes it really nice for hiking. The first day was pretty short. The second day was long-- about 18miles. The third and fourth days were medium. The days are long and there's no rush so it's not too hard. We were all tired after 18 miles but a nice, hot shower, and some good warm food revived everyone. There are showers-- you have to pay for hot water (definitely worth it!) and you can buy the tickets on-site with cash/card/phone. So that's easy. Some huts have snacks and drinks to sell as well. A beer at the 3 hut was really welcome...

It took us a few days to figure out the amazing train system, trams, etc., but then it was a great way to see the rest of the countries we visited. We did a combo with kim kim (Netherlands and Germany) and a cruise with MSC to Denmark and Norway. We loved staying right across (Premier Suites) from the Rotterdam Central Train Station and then visiting different cities from there. Gouda was our favorite. We did the Cheese Experience (Excellent and so fun) and made our own stroopwafels at Berg's Bakery. Soooo fun. In Amsterdam, we did some things on our own. The Lookout Restaurant was well worth it. The Anne Frank House is so interesting. Very very worthwhile. We did a lot of just walking and visiting shops and restaurants and little cafes, etc. We opted not to do a planned Kinderdijk windmill tour (from Rotterdam) - it was cold that day and we decided to just do other things. We came back to Amsterdam after some time in Norway and Germany (also thru Kim kim) and did a tour to the Zaanse Schans Windmills. They were great! A clog shop and cheese place right there. The only suggestion I have for kim kim is to figure out some way for people to have a phone. Our carrier did not provide coverage there. We contacted Mieke one day from our hotel and she gave us very detailed directions to the Anne Frank house. This was great. However, if we would have had phones with mapquest that worked, it would have avoided alot of looking on our own. We had wifi on germany trains but not in the netherlands. We checked train schedules, platforms, etc. in the morning at our hotel before walking to the Rotterdam train station, and we were fine that way, but it would have been very very helpful to have a phone with wifi. The chip cards are a must (provided by kim kim). They loaded it with sufficient dollars for what we scheduled and then we added to it for some extra places we wanted to go. Then they provided an envelope and on our last day, we mailed them back to them at the train station. You can use them on any form of transportation which is very very convenient. We will never forget this trip - it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us. The two words that best describe it all are - Beautiful and interesting. Thank you all!

My wife and I usually plan trips ourselves but I was short on time for planning our trip to Norway. Relying on kimkim and its Norway-based Ethical Travel partner greatly relieved the stress. After some initial guidance, our knowledgeable local specialist Tom Christer proposed an itinerary. We communicated back and forth a few times, with Tom providing clear answers to all questions, to refine the plan. The high point of our trip was a 4-night stay at a boutique inn called BesteBakken, in Hafslo. The owner personally hosted delicious family-style dinners and breakfasts where we had a chance to meet other travelers including quite native Norwegians. It was a great base for exploring the local region, including a glacier hike, a kayak day paddle, and a hike up Molden mountain on our own. Our family of 4 adults needed some rest as well as wonderful sights and that's what we got on this trip. Tom or others at Ethical Travel were available to answer questions during the trip, and rebooked us in advance when one boat tour was cancelled. I would not hesitate to use kimkim again.

Hotel Review
Hôtel Charmante
Bergen

The hotel was recently built or renovated inside old wooden homes. Location is great, right in the center of action in Bergen, but the interior is a triumph of style over function. If you're seeking the style of an old hotel in Paris (in Bergen), you may like this place. But otherwise, the over-the-top interior decoration feels (and is) claustrophobic. The main entrance to the hotel is via a food service area which feels unhygienic. My biggest gripe is with the room itself. There was absolutely no place except the floor for our suitcases. Meanwhile, one corner of the room was occupied be a large wine refrigerator that few travelers will use. The bathroom was large enough, but the shower has no sills and the glass doors did not seal properly with each other or the floor, leaving deep puddles of water all over the bathroom after a shower. Neither the sink nor shower drained properly despite the recent renovation. Hotel staff were gracious and the included breakfast was tasty and luxurious. Despite it being rather cool outdoors, our room was warm and stuffy, with no air moving. We opened the window to cool off, but were awoken around 3am by someone clinking glassware in the courtyard cafe below our window.

This ruined several days of our trip and almost ended up with physical harm. When questioned the next day I was told only by Christina had she mentioned it (when, I have no idea). But it was not anywhere in the final itinerary. Riddergarten was a lame town with little food choices. Like really bad food choices. Bestebakken in Hafslo was nice but definitely didn’t need 3 nights there. 2 would have been sufficient. Food here was quite good and we liked this place a lot. Loften Ullensvang had good bike ride but absolutely nothing to do second day. Did not need 3 nights here. 2 nights would have been more than enough. The food here was horrendous. Literally only the (very) overpriced mediocre hotel buffet or a pizza shop. I had wanted to go to Bergen and Lofoten but was told Bergen was boring and not enough time to go to Lofoten. I’m used to planning my own trips but ran out of time. I’m sworn off travel agents. I was not impressed with the final itinerary.

In regards of the ferry/boat tour for your hike it was mentioned several times in the chat conversation we had, after you did not wish to go with a guide, I thought you were comfortable doing the hike on your own initiative. I also suggested an easier option which I got no response on.

I do of course wish that you would have had the best experience possible while visiting Norway. Based on the answers of what type of trip you wished, I was under the understanding that you wanted hiking, and scenic nature and small towns/villages. These fjord areas are some of the most scenic and authentic we have, especially to explore when you have the freedom of a rental car.
In regards of you visiting Bergen, you originally had 3 nights here, but wanted to fly to Oslo instead, so we changed that.

Hopefully you will trust a different travel agent one day in the future, for a different trip.
Best,
Christina

Our time in Rome was divided into three guided tour days, and a free day. We had two diifferent guides and stayed in a private apartment. Our overall impression is that the visit was educational and enjoyable. The big disappointment of our time in Rome was the very large crowds. Every location we visited had long lines and we had a hard time taking a photo without numerous other tourists in the scene. That is not something the tour company who scheduled us could have changed, but perhaps we should have been warned when we booked that crowds of tourists were the largest ever, and that it might have been better to book much later in the year.

First, our lodging. The tour company put us in a private apartment that was a ten minute walk from Piazza del Poppolo. We were thus able to walk to all of our tours. At the same time, we had good beds, a large living and diining room, a fully appointed kitchen, and four showers. What a nice place to stay for six days! Thank you for this! We were very happy with it.

For the first two days our guide was Mariapaola. She is a trained archeologist with a graduate degree. And she was able to answer all our questions professionally and put answers in historical context that was very refreshing. Our third guide was not as knowledgeable. We cannot recommend her.

Hotel Review
Rome Apartment Colosseum RIR 11

I have already mentioned our total satisfaction with our lodging. It had all the amenities of home, so we ended up eating breakfast and some dinners inn the apartment and were happy to be able to do so. The apartment had four showers, so each room's occupants had their own shower. The apartment also had a laundry, and we used the washing machine several times. But we could get the clothes drier to work, so that was a problem. We loved the apartment, and want to say thank you for arranging our stay there!

Our guide for this walking tour is a trained archeologist with extensive knowledge of the cultures and civilizations that created the magniicient monuments we were visiting. It would have been hard to find a better, more knowledgeable and qualified guide. We. were very happy with her and recommend her to other visitors.

This is where a highly educated guide added a lot to the experience. She was able to describe the architecture of the Pantheon and how it used the natural movement of the sun to illustrate the progression of the seasons. She explained the structure of the building inside and out. As part of this tour, we also visited the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain, and she was able to include a lot of history from those fountains in her explanation of their history. We were very pleased with her extensive knowledge and her pleasant demeaor.

Again, a knowledgeable guide who was able to communicate well in English was an enormous benefit and we got a lot out of the tour.

It says a lot about the large number of tourists at the Colosseum that this service is provided, but the truth is you would spend more time standing in ine than seeing the Colosseum and Forum if you did not take this option. By all means, take advantage of this.

Again, Mariapaola was a knowledgeable guide aand a pleasant person to see the tourist sites of Rome with.

Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel - private guide
Rome

The Vatican and Sistine Chapel are must-see sites for any visit to Rome. Must-see for tens of thousands of tourists in addition to you, regrettably, so you will spend your entire time shuffling through the museum and chapel dodging other tourists, trying to keep up with your guide, and trying to hear your guide describe what you hope to see through all the other tourists. I don't suppose there is any way to change this situation, but it detracts from the experience.

Again, the fact that this is offered makes it clear that the number of tourists visiting the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel is enormous. You must buy this option if you are going to visit these sites, but the large number of tourists just detracted from the experience for me.
