Kimkim Trip Reviews

Just returned from an exciting 9 day mother/daughter trip to Belize! This is the second tour that I've booked through kimkim in the past two years, and again, it proved to be a wise choice and an east platform to use. Our local expert, Alex Coronado, with Old Town Outfitters based in Guatemala, was very personable and fun to work with. He listened to my suggestions and concerns, and made appropriate changes to the itinerary as needed. He was then very approachable and helpful while we were en route, making restaurant suggestions along the way.

One of my biggest concerns in advance with this trip was that the ground transportation go smoothly. Alex booked our transfers through the Belize Airport Shuttle Service (BASS), which proved to be wonderful! Lilia, a local BASS representative, met us at the airport upon arrival with a friendly, reassuring face and a big hug. She introduced us to our first driver and went over the itinerary. She then kept in touch with me through Whatsapp to make sure all the pick-up times went smoothly. We loved all of our drivers!

Most of our tours while inland at San Ignacio were booked through MayaWalk tours. They were wonderful to work with, and we thoroughly enjoyed all of our drivers and guides. Our first guide, Richard, to Mountain Pine Ridge was particularly knowledgeable about local flora and animals. Our second tour was a day-trip to the Tikal ruins in Guatemala, which I highly recommend to anyone considering a Belize trip. It's an enticing glimpse into the beauty of Guatemala. On the second part of our trip, out on the island of Caye Caulker, we used Black Hawk Tours for a full-day snorkeling excursion. Those guys were an absolute blast, and managed to find not one, but an entire group of 4 manatees for us!

Finally, the hotels were lovely and exactly matched to our preferences. The Falling Leaves Lodge, our favorite, in San Ignacio, had lovely jungle grounds, and a very warm, welcoming staff. We ate most of our meals at their restaurant, the Obsidian, and enjoyed happy hour cocktails each day from their bar. They have a brand new, absolutely lovely, pool, which we had all to ourselves most evenings.

I will continue to recommend friends and family to the kimkim model, and will also consider another trip to Guatemala through Old Town Outfitters!

Falling Leaves Lodge

Loved the small hotel charm, and cute cabanas. Very warm and welcoming staff, particularly the guys running the bar. We loved the food at their restaurant, the Obsidian, and ate most of our meals there. The grounds were lovely and peaceful, especially early in the morning when the birds were waking up. The brand new pool was a delight, and we got to enjoy it by ourselves most evenings.

Because of their small size, it was easy for them to get to know people. One of the groundkeepers noticed me bird-watching, for example, and gave me a local map of excellent bird watching sites.

Very nice way to break up the drive back to the coast from inland. The cave and the river that ran through it were a wonderful relief from the heat. The water was crystal clear and very inviting to swim in.

Wonderful glimpse into Guatemala. The border crossing was easy and fun. The ruins are spectacular. We saw lots of wildlife and beautiful trees as a bonus. Lunch en route was very good.

Loved our guide, Richard. He stopped at a small road-side bakery on the way and we got freshly made plantain chips. He then told us stories about the Mayan gods en route, and provided excellent tidbits about local flora and animals all day. Lunch that day was one of our favorite meals.

I will review these five days trip by each day. Day 1: Edinburgh Castle and old town tour was enjoyable and amusing with our knowledgeable tour guide Kieran Begg . Dinner at The Witchery as you recommend, the structure of the hotel and restaurant definitely impressive to us, wish I can say the same with the server we had, whom was not very attending and polite. Day2: Rabbie's tour was entertaining with Kelly(?), Alnwick Castle was amazing, Bamburgh Castle was last minute changed on the schedule my husband was little disappointed on his wish list, however the tour guide did stop by far away in a parking lot, and took a picture for everyone. Day3: Redcliffe Hotel was a charming apartment with everything we need and most of all good location to the town and bus station by walking distance. Loch Ness Cruise and Urquhart Castle tour were most wonderful. Thank you, Aleksandra! Day 4: Isle of Skye and Eilean Donan Castle tour, the weather was not the best to view their beauty which we heard so much and looking forward to it, but the tour bus was the worst experience for us, and I am sure for the same fellow travelers that day. Nonetheless, thank you, Kateryna prompt respond for this matter! Day 5: The Kelpies tour was a plus for the end of the trip. Thank you, Aleksandra!

Everyone was super nice in St Andrews! Stevie was a cab driver that picked us up at the airport and took us back. He also ended up driving us on Sunday for our day trip because the guide was sick. Stevie is the best!!!!!! So nice and very accommodating and sweet to my 83 yr old mom who went with us. We had a couple of issues but the Kim Kim team was on it and fixed them fast! It was a great trip and I highly recommend using them.

All the guides were amazing! Not only where they very knowledgeable, they interacted with you like a friend would. The hardest thing in planning the trip was to decide what to do out of all the ideas that alba and Stefy gave me. Communication with them was on point. I had a question or concern, and I got an answer within a day. Rarely two. Once I got to Spain, they provided me with their phone number in case there were any problems. They also sent the numbers of the drivers and their information as the day to the tours approached. (I’m including in this the information for the guides as well). To me it was worth every penny not to have the headache of having to foresee problems or complications. The culture and the food there were also amazing and whenever I needed a recommendation for anything, Stefy and Alba where at a text or phone call away. Overall experience, awesome!

Our favorite guide was set up for us in Vienna. We had him for 2 days and he was an incredible wealth of knowledge re; the city and its history. Also since he’s. Art history major, the knowledge at Schönbrunne palace was extensive.

Valentine was also very accommodating with regards to rescheduling one of our tours very last minute. We needed to push a bike tour in Munich by one day and she was on top of it.

Overall another great experience using Kimkim and its network of guides.

Our experience with booking our honeymoon through kimkim was incredible! Such great communication with our guide and various others who were in on our itinerary throughout the trip. We felt so taken care of and loved not having to worry about planning the transportation in country, and taking local recommendations for where to eat, what to do, etc. Effie, our tour guide for the Acropolis was so knowledgeable and personable- she gave us ideas for things to do in and around Athens during the heatwave! For the island-hopping portion of our trip, we had an unbelievable week at sea with Kostas & Aggeliki celebrating our honeymoon! We were a bit disappointed that we had a room with two twin beds shoved together for our honeymoon... But other than that we loved this hotel. The continental breakfast was good with delicious Greek yogurt and honey. The pool and views were insanely beautiful, cool location on a cliff side, close to really great restaurant- Magaya Beach Bar. It was unfortunately not walking distance to town- waited forever in the HOT sun to take a bus to Parikia.

Our Turkey vacation was a trip of a lifetime.
From the very beginning Berat listened to what we were seeking and she definitely delivered!

We wanted to see the famous sites but also have experiences that were different and outdoor nature related.

Our guides were very professional and knowledgeable. We had great private transportation in every location..
We had our detailed itinerary but it was wonderful to have Berat check in with us daily with reminders regarding our guide/driver/activity.

The highlight in Istanbul was the Hamam experience.

The hot air balloon ride in Capadoccia was magical.

The hike on Lycian Way was adventurous and boat ride to Kekova island so beautiful.

Pamukkale was the magnificent natural wonder that had been on our wishlist for decades that Berat was able to fit into our tight schedule and I will always be grateful to her! (Many told me I was asking for too much in a week)

Thank you Holden and the rest of the gang from Serendipity Adventures! Me, my wife, my 8 year old, and especially my wildlife loving 10 year old all had an awesome time!

First, during the months before finalizing the trip, I appreciated being able to continually customize my itinerary. I sent a lot of messages, questions, late night thoughts, etc, and Holden would immediately answer every message.

My goals were to have a week that was half jungle, half beach with a variety of activities along the way. I chose La Fortuna and Manuel Antonio, and they worked in all kinds of excursions from hanging bridges, zip lining, a chocolate and coffee making tour, beach time, and lots of wildlife viewing opportunities. They arranged all of the transportation, and everything was spot on punctual.

The two hotels they recommended worked out great. In a single evening at Volcano Lodge I could watch steam rising out of Arenal Volcano, keep an eye on my kids in the pool, soak in thermal springs, and have a fancy dinner all in one comfortable spot. And my stay at Costa Verde included a room and multiple restaurants with beach views, as well as a fun airplane atmosphere that the kids enjoyed.

Also want to give a shout out to Alex from Serendipity Adventures, who picked us up from the airport and drove us all the way to La Fortuna. And several days later he met us again and drove us the five hours to Manuel Antonio. We spent a lot of hours chatting and learning about his country!

Overall, the personal touch made the difference. They even provided their contact info and kept in touch with us for the duration of the trip. I highly recommend them for a family with young kids!

The trip went without a hitch. I will definitely use Kim Kim in future trips!

This was our 2nd trip booked through KimKim who engaged Hien from REALISTIC ASIA to plan, book / take care of every aspect of our adventure.
From the 4to5 months before our trip, whilst on the trip and after the trip, Hieńs service was EXCEPTIONAL… our absolute enjoyment seeming to be her main priority every day. She is just lovely and had great attention to detail and we had the peace of mind that at every airport there would be a guide / driver awaiting us, that every day planned our driver would be ready and our guide waiting with all the info we needed and prepared with a fun plan of activities for the day … and offered us every flexibility, if we changed our minded or saw something else we'd prefer to do we could do it as there were just the two of us on this private tour. Our itinerary was a perfect blend of elements from countryside, villages, towns, cities to rivers, mountains, oceans and lagoons.
We love the responsible travel aspect to KimKim - Realistic Asia, each trip having an element of giving to the community and visiting those off the beaten track places we could never find ourselves where we can enjoy authentic local experiences with locals living their day to day lives … it was awesome. We could never have planned or even thought of all the adventures we had by ourselves. And it made everything so easy in a country we hadn’t been to before, where we didnt speak the language or know the customs etc … it was all taken care of for us, without worry. AND we were treated to the most amazing food , food that we would never have thought of trying if by ourselves …. And it was all so delicious.

Banteay Srei - Floating Village - City tour

We did some temples, Tomb Raider for one, today as because it was a public holiday we switched activity days. We were glad to see Tomb Raider separately from the other temples so we could really appreciate it and it was our favourite. Lunch was great. The floating village experience was excellent although it was hard to see the conditions in which people live along the river and in the villages. A very raw experience. Channel, our guide was excellent and is a truly lovely genuine man.

Working with Vicky was a pleasure. I was going to Australia to see birds. That was my #1 priority. Because of that I did some reaserch first. Vicky took my suggestions and augmented them with great options. In the end my birding tour with Del Richards (Fine Feather Tours) was perfect! Since we were near the Great Barrier Reef we HAD to go snorkling we also wanted a mountain bike ride. Vicky found us the most amazing tours! We went snorkling with a small family owned business ABC Snorkel Charters. They had prescription goggles to use and wetsuites. The team was so knowledgable and friendly. She found us Biked tours for mountain biking, e had Glen as our guide. He was all in for biking and birding!!!!! all 3 tours were really good! we stayed at the Silkari Lagoons for part of the time. It was an apartment with laundry and a kitchen! And Finaly - Fancy at the Thala Nature Reserve - WOW! what an amazing beautiful place! We had breakfast and dinner included so did not have to worry about anything!

BEAUTIFUL place to stay! It is out of the way and in its own space. They have a great restaurant with yummy dinners and breakfast! The rooms are individual cabins in the rainforest which was really wonderful and private. So relaxing and comfortable. They have miles of trails/tracks on the reserve. You want to be sure to have a day to just stay on the property!

What a great day! Spending the day with Del and birding was so much fun. We were near the end of our trip so had seen quite a lot of different species. Even so Del got me 22 lifers and 75 species for the day! Just WOW! He knows where specific species like to be. When we found a bird, he made sure we were standing in the right place to get some pretty amazing shots. Del is incredibly knowledgeably, super friendly and so interesting. What a BLAST! We had Glen to guide us for the day. We had a great time. We choose a long ride (40km) so I loved having an electric bike. My husband used a standard bike and was soo happy with the ride. We went through many ecosystems, the differences were really neat. Glen even humored us and we did birding and biking. woo hoo. The equiptment was all in top shape. The logistics were well thought out. We all earned our beer on the beach at the end!

Our trip from the Dolomites to Venice was wonderful. We started in Bolzano with a stay at the Goldenstern, which is a very lovely and well situated hotel. After several days we drove to Ortisei in the Val Gardena. We stayed at an apartment within walking distance to all of the activities we wanted. After hiking for three days, and enjoying the wonderful mountains we drove to Padua. Here we stayed in an apartment that was centrally located for our tours. Lara was our guide around the city, she was very knowledgeable, and gave good suggestions for other attractions and restaurants. Our arranged cooking class in the countryside was wonderful - a garden tour, pasta making and chickens. Our next stop was Venice and our bed and breakfast, Cima Rosa, located on the Grand Canal was fantastic - wonderful people, good advice and a very good breakfast. It was great to skip the line for our arranged tour of St Marks and the Doges Palace. Venice is a very walkable city.

The folks at KimKim were very easy to work with and were able to put together a wonderful family trip that met our budget. We loved the hiking, the food, the hot springs, the rain forest and, of course, the zip lining. We absolutely enjoyed almost every aspect of our time in Costa Rica but we would let future travelers know that June is definitely rainy season so book plans in the morning rather than the afternoon and inquire about the septic system in places you will be staying. Two of our hotels didn't let you flush the toilet paper, which some folks may find unacceptable.

The location was wonderful, the amenities were very good, the staff was very friendly and helpful. In fact, the best meal we had was at a local restaurant across the street in the commercial center (2nd Floor) which someone recommended. We used the spa, which was well priced and a nice treat. The rooms were large and comfortable and ours had air conditioning. The negative which keeps them from 5 stars is that you cannot flush the toilet paper in the toilets. They should upgrade the system to handle that.

Overall the trip was brilliant. Knowing nothing about Mexico we didn’t know where to start but I knew I wanted to see Mexico City and Frida Kahlo house and Diego Rivera murals. We added in mesoamerican history, and seeing something of the amazing national parks. This set us on I think a pretty standard tour of MC, Teotehuacan, Puebla, (and stunning trek of a high altitude, dormant volcano in national park which was a real highlight and not standard), Oaxaca with art tour and Monte Alban, and Puerto Escondido. We also did a small
Detour into the mountains en route to Escondido.
Our top guides were Clara from Food Mexico who gave us a tour of street food and the markets in MC. She was a true authority on Mexican eating and culture and was such a good introduction to eating as a local! Our guide Pablo took us to Diego Rivera’s museo Anahuacalli in neighborhood of Coyoacan , a 40 minute taxi ride outside of MC. Another trip highlight giving us an in depth understanding of pre Hispanic Mexican culture as represented in their artefacts. Loved this! Pablo was amazing , so much enthusiasm for the subject and we then went into Frida’s and Rivera’s house. Gorgeous .
Being Londoners we like to travel by metro and explore areas not necessarily of the typical tourist agenda and I do think a little more help could have been offered here in the itinerary. If you like to get off the proverbial beaten tourist track and experience MC as lived by Mexicans where do you go? We sort of worked it out though! We loved the metro. Easy to use, felt safe ( with common sense) and cheap! Often quicker than a taxi.
Our trip to Teotehuacan was fascinating but our guide a little confusing on his history which may be due to the fact so much of the archaeological understanding of Teotehuacan is down to informed interpretations of the era as there are no written records. Onto Oaxaca city which is a beautiful and vibrant city . It’s everyone’s favorite and it’s filled with gorgeous art murals, museums , funky little cafes, and exquisite food. Our guide Diego from Coyote tours was amazing and showed us his favorite murals providing a detailed background to the relevance of different murals(social, political, and cultural) that I would never have understood by myself nor gleaned from a tour book. We did a bicycle tour which meant we could cover more ground and was fun but you can do walking tours.
Only low point of guides was our visit to Monte Alban in a group tour. Place is fascinating but could have done it as well with a book! I think a personal guide is really worth it on everything.
Finally Puerto Escondido for our beach rest. We moved our hotel to Punta Zicatela as we prefer a funky beach scene. It’s very lively but we found a quiet place end of town and had a fabulous day watching the surfers and enjoying the sunshine. A morning with our guide Ishmael on the lagoon 30 minutes along the coast was another highlight. We kayaked and saw a range of unusual bird life, mangroves and a baby crocodile! It was a totally chill experience and I highly recommend it. Ishmael provides the guided info. whilst other members of his family work behind the scene to provide kayaks, organize etc. I love the fact we were benefited from the knowledge of truly local people, living on the beach or local town. All so proud of their regional defining cultures. We leave Mexico feeling excited by what we have seen and learnt an appetite for more exploring of this wonderful country as we only saw a tiny part.
Now at the airport about to go back to England. 😥

We started with a tour of the local market, a local church to soak up the vibe and cultural richness of this small town just outside oaxaca. Our guide Alejandro was so knowledgeable and relaxed and really knows food and the history of his country. Our cooking experience was so special and we felt so privileged to spend time with this family and cook with them. Dalia planned a menu to suit our unsettled tummies and used herbs to promote digestion and healing in the most delicious soup and chicken broth. We made tacos which was great fun and ground cacoa nibs and made them into a delicious treat. We will always remember this . So special.

My bed was sooo uncomfortable. I got a terrible stiff neck and soar back and felt sick from not getting any good sleep. I tried to cancel the last 3 nights of my reservation (48 hours ahead of time) as I was leaving for Aqua Calientes for a few days but they REFUSED. It was sooo bad I paid to stay in a hotel instead. I will NEVER stay here again. There are way better hotel options in the same price range as a private room.
